THE BENIGN PAROXYSMAL POSITIONAL
VERTIGO (BPPV) IN ACUPUNCTURE
Franco Menichelli
Italian Association of Acupuncture, Italy
C
upololithiasis or canalolithiasis or VPPB (benign positional paroxysmal
vertigo) is the cause of a very strong vertiginous crisis that suddenly
hits the patient, sometimes during sleep, giving the sensation that the room
and all objects are whirling or clockwise or counterclockwise. This crisis
is usually referred to certain positions, so it is called benign positional
paroxysmal vertigo (BPPV). This pathology responds very well and quickly
to treatment with acupuncture, through an easy-to-apply scheme. First check
the ear affected by the disease and treat the corresponding ear points and
sometimes they are bilateral and in this case both ears are treated.
Franco Menichelli is graduated in Medicine and Sur-
gery at the “La Sapienza” University of Rome (1980).
He dedicated himself to the study of acupuncture as
early as the late ‘70s, as a student and then collabora-
tor of Dr Maurice Mussat. He is currently President of
the Italian Association of Acupuncture, Vice President
of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine (WF-
CMS).He is the Director of SAET, the School of Ener-
getic and Traditional Acupuncture of Rome and Arad
(Romania, Vasile Goldis University).
