he Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is the new state-of-the-
art approach in the prophylactic world. It means that the
clinician is guided by the disclosed biofilm during professional
dental cleaning procedures.
GBT is truly minimally invasive and reduces the need of hand
and sonic instrumentation. It is safe, effective and gentle to
teeth and soft tissues, implants and restoratives. It is also
comfortable for patients and practitioners. It is efficient and
time saving. Antibacterial photodynamic therapy (tPDT)
has been effective in periodontal therapy. Previous laser
light applications included the placement of a light fiber
into the periodontal pocket to activate the photosensitizer.
Using a novel approach, the transgingival laser application
of tPDT, we have a mini invasive technique. Mixing the GBT
with the soft-laser we obtain a mini invasive treatment for
periodontal diseases with visible clinical results. During
supportive periodontal therapy, the use of tPDT adjunctive to
GBT appears to represent a promising modality for infection
control of residual pockets.
