SMALL BOWEL OBSTRUCTION
Small bowel obstruction may be a partial or complete blockage of the tiny intestine, which may be a a part of the gastrointestinal system . Small bowel obstruction are often caused by many things, including adhesions, hernia and inflammatory bowel disorders.
If the tiny bowel is functioning normally, digested products will still flow onward to the massive intestine. An obstruction within the small bowel can partly or completely block contents from passing through. This causes waste and gases to create up within the portion above the blockage. There are many common causes and risk factors, including:
Adhesions: These are bands of connective tissue which will form after abdominal or pelvic surgery. An earlier abdominal surgery is that the leading risk factor for little bowel obstruction within the us .
Hernias: Segments of the intestine may break through a weakened section of the wall . This creates a bulge where the bowel can become obstructed if it's trapped or tightly pinched within the place where it pokes through the wall . Hernias are the second commonest explanation for small bowel obstruction within the us .
Inflammatory disease: Inflammatory bowel disorders like Crohn’s disease or diverticulitis can damage parts of the tiny intestine.
Malignant (cancerous) tumors: Cancer accounts for alittle percentage of all small bowel obstructions. In most cases, the tumor doesn't begin within the intestine , but spreads to the tiny bowel from the colon, female reproductive organs, breasts, lungs or skin.
