Abstract:
Microbial deterioration is a common problem in wooden art works, especially in Taiwan. Because of Taiwan belongs in sea island weather, with high humidity all the years. And most of Taiwanese culture heritages are made by wood which are located in the semi- open space, for instance, temples, where the temperature and humidity could not be controlled. Furthermore, some artists are used to use driftwood, unfumigated wood or untreated wood as their material and fungal deterioration would be occurred much easier. Besides ethanol treatment, essential oil will also be a method to deal with the fungal problem of wooden art works. According to different cases, art conservators would choose the most suitable treatment for the art works.
