Phytochemicals Screening, Antioxidant and Antibacterial Potential ff Mukia Scabrella (Musumusukkai) Against Nosocomial Bacterial Pathogens
In the present study phytochemical screening of the leaf extract of M. scabrella revealed the presence of antibacterial and antioxidant bioactive components. Phytochemical tests showed the existence of flavonoids, carbohydrates, steroids, tannins, alkaloids and phenolic compounds in the leaf powder of M. scabrell. Methanolic and ethyl acetate extracts of leaves, stem and root parts indicated the antibacterial activity against nosocomial bacterial pathogens. GC – MS analysis revealed the presence of bioactive molecules ascribed to the antibacterial activity. Thus, the results clearly indicated that M. scabrella could be used to explore the new drugs against nosocomial bacterial pathogens
