Fluid resuscitation in sepsis; what is appropriate
Sepsis is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children with a worldwide prevalence in pediatric intensive care units of approximately 8%. Fluid bolus therapy is a ?rst line therapy for resuscitation of septic shock and has been a recommendation of international guidelines for nearly two decades. The evidence base supporting these guidelines are based on limited data. In recent times, evidence suggesting harm from ?uid in terms of morbidity and mortality have generated lots of interest in reviewing amount and kind of fluid is best for resuscitating pediatric septic patients. My talk will try to review the available data and evidence.
